The Vector Institute is seeking a Research Engineer to join our growing team in Toronto.


As a Vector Research Engineer, you will discover, invent, and build innovative solutions alongside some of the best and brightest machine learning researchers in the world, and will contribute to research breakthroughs in machine learning and AI.


  • Drive collaborative research projects forward by designing and developing research software and experiment infrastructure/automatic managers;
  • Conduct performance evaluation and optimization of algorithms;
  • Provide programming support and develop a range of prototype applications and demos;
  • Architect and implement software libraries to support organization-wide research; and
  • Report and present software developments including status and results.


  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, mathematics, electrical engineering, or related discipline; MSc/MEng preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in machine learning and/or statistics
  • Demonstrated software engineering background
  • Strong knowledge and experience of Python and C/C++
  • Strong knowledge of algorithm design
  • Experience with parameter and architecture tuning of deep learning algorithms is preferred
  • Experience in the tools used by our researchers preferred (e.g., Tensorflow, CUDA, and PyTorch)
  • User interaction/design expertise with Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) engineering considered an asset
