POSITION OVERVIEW 


As a Vector Data Development Intern, you will contribute to developing data pipelines needed for applying research in machine learning and AI to pragmatic problems. You will collaborate with some of the best and brightest fulltime AI developers and machine learning researchers. You will work on a research project for genomics data. You will report to the AI Engineering Director.

 

Start date: May 2021 (4- and 8-month terms available)


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Working with research students, graduate students, and postdocs in designing and implementing machine-learning based tools through web applications;
  • Designing application frameworks, preparing documentation;
  • Developing application backends and modules in Python;
  • Creating and maintaining relational databases in SQL;
  • Developing application front ends using Javascript/CSS/HTML;
  • Deploying applications utilizing elastic frameworks (e.g. Kubernetes on GCP);and,
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

PROFILE OF THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

 

  • Currently enrolled at a Canadian university in third year or above in a Bachelor's program in computer science, mathematics, electrical engineering, or related discipline.
  • 2+ years experience in fullstack or related development.
  • Data engineering background working with messy real-world data.
  • Analytical skills to identify signal in data and feasibility of prediction.
  • Experience with Python/PHP/Ruby.
  • Experience with Node/angular Javascript, CSS, HTML.
  • Experience with MSS/MySQL for database development.
  • Experience with deployment on GCP/AWS/Azure.
  • Experience in machine learning and/or statistics preferred.
  • Experience working with scientific data, particularly biological sequencing data preferred,
  • Background in bioinformatics would be valuable but not required,
  • Experience translating and optimizing machine learning algorithms preferred.
  • Experience with Cloud Dataflow or other Apache Beam data pipelines preferred.
